Last year I was excited when the Burlington-based weekly Seven Days published an insert featuring restaurants participating in Vermont Restaurant Week. I couldn’t wait to sample dishes from some of the highly touted localvore eateries I’d read about since moving to Vermont three years earlier.

When you first approach this East Village haunt, you may think you’re at a bar, not a restaurant.  The truth is, while it started out as a bar serving food once a week, it’s since become a popular spot for delicious comfort food at great prices.

Situated smack in the middle of the Marc Jacobs re-gentrified West Village, Maremma serves traditional Tuscan fare in a rustic Italian cowboy-themed atmosphere – odd sounding, but it works.  

Although they serve Da Bronx Martini, don’t expect a mad-cool crowd at Mad46. The latest rooftop bar opening up just in time for the sweltering summer heat, this Midtown perch on the 19th floor of the Roosevelt Hotel shuts down at midnight and mostly caters to the after-work crowd.

You may think Greenwich Village needs another Mexican restaurant like it needs a new nail salon or another bank branch, but this recently opened restaurant brought to you by chef David Schuttenberg (of Fatty Crab fame), is worth taking a closer look at.

As if you haven’t already heard, New York, the Country and the World are in the tank right now.  There are a lot of things you can do which involve panic, worry, anxiety, etc…
